The Animal is one of the weirdest and most chaotic creatures in R.E.P.O., often mistaken for a joke enemy—and honestly, it kind of is. With its erratic movement, unpredictable reactions, and minimal threat level, The Animal is more of a living distraction than a serious opponent.
It roams around at high speed, seemingly without purpose, and doesn’t actively try to harm players. Its only attack is a painfully slow lunge that deals 2 damage, making it laughably ineffective. Most players will take more damage tripping over their own panic than from The Animal itself.
Behavior
The Animal has random movement patterns, darting around the map with no clear goal. It does not stalk or chase players in any meaningful way, but if you try to pick it up, it will sprint away in a panic, making it harder to catch. However, if two or more players grab it at once, it freezes for a few seconds before entering a wild, spinning frenzy.
It prefers to run rather than fight and does not retaliate effectively even when attacked. It’s one of the few enemies in the game that seems more confused than hostile.
Hidden Usefulness
Despite its uselessness in combat, The Animal can be surprisingly helpful. It has the unique ability to trample and kill Gnomes just by walking over them. Because of this, some players choose to keep it alive as a natural pest control system—turning this chaotic critter into an accidental ally.
Weaknesses
The Animal has only 5 HP, meaning any weapon can take it out with ease. A single swing of a melee weapon or a couple of shots will be enough to end its hyperactive run. It poses no real challenge in terms of damage output or survivability.

But if you’re determined to catch or kill it:
Avoid chasing it alone—it’ll run.
Use two players to grab it at once for a brief freeze.
Strike fast, as it doesn’t fight back and dies quickly.
Consider leaving it alive if you’re dealing with Gnomes—its trampling can actually help you out.
